Certainly, summertime has brought about more warm weather activities and with that comes a want to sip on something refreshing and delicious. We have a few favorites that will compliment any well-deserved summertime thirst.
The first is the classic Venetian Spritz, a simplistic Italian cocktail comprising 2 Ounces of Campari or Aperol, Sparkling Wine, Ice, and if you want it a little fizzier some extra club soda or sparkling water (our favorite is Gerolsteiner). Don’t worry too much about measuring, a good splash of liquor and topped with sparkling wine will yield something delicious and easy. To keep with tradition, a nice Prosecco rounds out this cocktail perfectly, and our favorites include Torresella Prosecco ($20) or La Marca Prosecco ($14), both are value minded and their sweetness balances perfectly with the bitterness of the Campari or Aperol. To serve the classic Spritz we highly recommend the Schott Zwiesel Tritan sauvignon blanc glass and if you are feeling extra Italian drop a green olive in the bottom to add some salinity and savory elements to the drink.
Our other favorite summertime wine cocktail, while keeping things simple, is the French 75. This balanced mix of 2 ounces of gin, a squeeze of fresh lemon, a dash of simple syrup (or some sugar if that isn’t handy), and 2-3 ounces of sparkling wine, plus a lemon twist (if you’re feeling fancy or have someone to impress) is a truly refreshing, aromatic, and balanced expression of the wine and botanicals of the gin. For this cocktail, we highly recommend serving it in a flute to help balance the strength of the gin on the nose and wine on the palate. Our favorite is the Schott Zwiesel Tritan, which is lead free and durable thanks to it being woven with titanium.
Enjoy these with the utmost summertime sun and humidity, preferably with shorts and good friends!
